3 Ways to Teach Your Toddler Colors

Today I thought I’d share with you some of the ways I’ve been teaching Caroline her colors!

She is getting so big and her vocabulary is growing a mile a minute so I thought at 2.5 years old it was time to start teaching her some fun things including colors!!!

//Painting or Finger Painting//

Ok, don’t hate me mama but finger painting is soooo good and soooo fun for little ones! Yes, it will be a little messy but you know what that’s ok! Just tell yourself before you dive into finger painting that it will be messy but it will be ok.

toddler painting and learning colors

Pick a spot inside or outside that you don’t mind if a little paint touches something.

Grab a plastic tablecloth or something that is large and plastic and lay it down either on the table or on the floor.

Wet a towel or two that you don’t mind getting messy. I usually use a hand towel.

Now lay out your paper and paints and get to work.

While you and your little one are finger painting talk about the colors they are using and the ones you are using.

If they need to at any moment let them wipe their hands off on the wet towel. And if you’re painting in a group, fill a small bucket with water and a little soap so when the kids are done they can walk over to the bucket and wash off. Include a dry towel for them to dry off there.

Toddler learning how to match colors

This one is fun and no mess well not a mess like finger painting! 😂

We like to take several different colors of construction paper and lay them out on the floor, then we take either paper clips or things from around the house and we match the object to the paper.

At the end the objects will be sorted by colors!

I’m really excited about this way to teach your toddler colors!

Color Match Game-Simply Holley Marie

I’m currently making a binder of toddler activities and this is one of the activities that I will be sticking in!

I printed the pdf at Staples so the colors would appear vibrant and not drain my printer. Then I laminated the pages. Cut out the color titles and pictures. And finally stuck velcro on the backs so we could play a matching game either on the blank squares or spread out in the house!

Seriously these have been so fun and easy to play with Caroline!

You can grab them here.

Ok, I hope you have fun with your little one teaching them 3 different way to learn their colors! Just remember to have fun and don’t let the mess stress you!
