Dinner Tonight: Sausage and Peppers

Today I thought I would share one of my absolute favorite meals with you—sausage and peppers!

Not only do I love this meal because it is delicious and always a crowd favorite, but I also love it because it is soooo easy to make! And you know I am ALL about an easy dinner, especially during the week.

This is one of those meals that requires very little prep, uses simple ingredients, and somehow turns out delicious every single time. It’s definitely one of those recipes I come back to over and over again!

You can make this meal even easier with a jar of Rao’s sauce. And now listen…I am not Italian. I have zero Italian blood in me despite my last name being Cavaliere. 😂 I just married into the whole Italian New York thing!

Growing up, tomato sauce was just red sauce. We grabbed whatever brand, poured it on pasta, and I thought it was perfectly delicious. So naturally, when I got married and started cooking for us, I assumed I could just grab whatever jar of sauce was on sale and voilà—a yummy dinner.

Oh boy, was I wrong. 😂

I quickly learned that there is A LOT more thought that goes into a good tomato sauce than I ever realized! Over the years, I learned how to make sauce from scratch—or semi-scratch—from John’s grandmas and his mom, and I absolutely love making it that way.

But sometimes…I just need dinner on the table. I don’t have time to make sauce, doctor up a jar, or let something simmer forever. I need to open a jar, pour it into the pot, and know it’s going to be GOOD.

And then I found Rao’s!

Rao’s is the first jarred sauce I’ve found that John genuinely loves straight from the jar to the pot to the plate—no doctoring it up, no adding a million things. And oh my gosh, I am so thankful for it! It has made meals like this one so much easier for me.

The only problem? Once you get used to really good sauce, it’s pretty hard to go back! 😂

Well, let’s get to the recipe! Are you ready?! Because I sure am!

Easy Crockpot Sausage and Peppers

Ingredients:
Mild Italian sausage links
1–2 green bell peppers
1–2 yellow onions
1 large jar Rao’s Marinara Sauce
Shredded mozzarella cheese
Hoagie rolls, pasta, or both for serving

1. Slice the peppers and onions into long, thin strips.
2. Brown the Italian sausage links in a skillet on the stove, turning them so they are browned on all sides. They do not need to be completely cooked through at this point—they’ll finish cooking in the crockpot.
3. Add the sliced peppers and onions to your crockpot.
4. Place the browned sausage links in the crockpot.
5. Pour the entire jar of Rao’s Marinara Sauce over the sausage, peppers, and onions.
6. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 2–4 hours, until the sausage is completely cooked through and the peppers and onions are tender.
7. Now for the best part—serve it however you like! We love piling the sausage, peppers, onions, and plenty of that delicious sauce onto hoagie rolls and topping everything with shredded mozzarella. You can also serve it over pasta…or do a little of both!
8. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and enjoy!

Tip: This is also a great meal for feeding a crowd! Put out the hoagie rolls, pasta, mozzarella, and a crockpot of sausage and peppers, and let everyone make their plate however they like.

And that’s it! I told you this one was easy! 😂

This is truly one of those meals I come back to over and over again because everyone in my family loves it, it requires hardly any work from me, and it makes the house smell soooo good while it cooks!

And finding Rao’s has made it even easier because I can literally open the jar, pour it in, and be done. No doctoring up the sauce or adding a bunch of extra ingredients—which is exactly the kind of dinner I need some nights!

If you make this one, let me know! And tell me…are you eating your sausage and peppers on a hoagie roll or over pasta?! I personally think you can’t go wrong with a little of both. 😂

Happy cooking, my friends!
