5 ways to celebrate earth day

Happy Earth Day!

Henry David Thoreau had it right.

To live each season as it passes is a beautiful gift.

And sometimes the best way to do this is to get outside, smell the fresh air, and listen to the sweet chirping of birds.

I thought since today was Earth Day I would write some ways you can celebrate Earth Day with your family.

1.Say a prayer of thanksgiving.I think the most important thing we can do in our families is to thank God for the Earth. I don’t know about you, but when I sit and really contemplate the vast beauty and gifts the Earth gives us, I’m filled with enormous gratitude. So take a moment with your family and say a prayer of thanksgiving.

Get outside! Earth Day

2. Get Outside! Have fun with your family outdoors. Go for a walk, swing on swings, go for a bike ride, just enjoy the outdoors.

Plant something. Earth Day

3. Plant something. I DO NOT have a green thumb by any means–so I know planting something may be a little difficult. I think the easiest way to do this is to buy a plant that’s already growing and replant it in your yard. Take your kids to a local plant nursery and speak with someone there.

4. Watch a planet show. We love watching planet shows like Blue Planet, Planet Earth, and any Disney Nature movie—Penguins is out this year. These shows are so beautiful and relaxing.

5. Read Earth Day’s history. I’m all about reading the history of why we celebrate a holiday. Knowing the history of an event brings more meaning to your celebration. Instead of just doing something, your family can know why you’re choosing to celebrate.

I hope you enjoy some of these small ways to celebrate our beautiful Earth. She is good to us and I’m forever thankful for her.

And I must add Happy Easter! HE is RISEN! ALLELUIA! What a beautiful season!
